Doing my best Steve Jobs impression.
Hi there, and welcome to my new and improved blog! I figured I would use this first post to introduce myself and share a couple of factoids about my background, and the reason I blog.
Firstly, my name is Becky. I grew up and currently live in Rhode Island. RI is in New England and is the smallest state in the US. It only takes about an hour to drive across the entire thing and there are a lot of really cool places to check out. Like many other Rhode Islanders, my parents are from RI, and their parents are from RI, and so on. Locals tend to never leave, but I’m hoping to move to a bigger city one day. Cost is a big factor in why I haven’t done so yet, and part of what I want to cover in this blog is how I’m improving my career and working on “side hustles” that will hopefully make a big move less painful for the ol’ bank account.
I went to school in Connecticut and studied Biology, with a minor in Mathematics. Since graduating in 2013 I’ve worked mainly in Project Management in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry. Even though I’m more of a “left-brained” person, I still love taking advantage of creative outlets like writing, photography, fashion, beauty, home decor, etc. in my free time. This blog will probably lean more towards “practical advice” than “content creator/story teller” like what you may see from the major bloggers that are out there, but I’m okay with that! I’m not a full time blogger, and writing practical advice and taking a few photos to go along with it is creative for me ???? All I can hope for is that you find the content useful, and maybe get a few laughs while reading it.
There are 3 straight generations of my family that were/are entrepreneurs, and I definitely want to start my own company one day. Being able to create a system that can pull money out of the economy, help customers solve a problem, and provide employees with a living feels like the most exciting and rewarding challenge life has to offer. I’m actually working on a business right now! It’s a skincare retailer called le SECT, which stands for “Scientifically Evaluated. Customer Tested.”. The store sells skincare that is totally free of fragrance, known irritants, and known sensitizers, which means everything is perfect for sensitive skin! I struggled with eczema as a kid and then struggled with acne for most of my late teens/early 20s, so easily finding products that won’t break me out felt like a market niche that needed to be filled. There are plenty of knowledge sources out there for skincare, but I want to make le SECT the go-to, one stop shop for those with sensitive skin, so they don’t have to spend hours of time and hundreds of dollars finding a skincare routine that works for them. You can check out the site here!
What you’ll find on this blog is mainly a mix of lifestyle and self improvement: my outfits, shopping guides, beauty and skincare how-to’s and advice, healthy and easy recipes, and career progression/side income experiments. I also like to dabble in travel, home decor, and mental health/minimalism.
The title of the blog, Sundays With Me, is meant to allude to the fact that I’m spending my Sundays working on and for myself. On building a career, finding my style and voice, and in general just learning how to be happy with myself and where I’m at in life.
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you again!
Becky
